Embracing Midlife Changes: A Guide to Thriving Through Menopause and Beyond

Are you a woman in your 40s or 50s feeling overwhelmed by the changes happening to your body? Do you find yourself struggling with weight gain, mood swings, and a general sense of loss of control? You're not alone. Midlife changes, particularly menopause, can be a challenging time for many women. But what if I told you that this phase of life could be a period of renewal rather than decline?

The Midlife Struggle is Real

Picture this: You're a successful professional who's always been on top of your game. Suddenly, you find yourself battling unexplained weight gain, especially around your midsection. Your energy levels are plummeting, and you're experiencing mood swings that leave you feeling like a stranger in your own body. Sound familiar?

Kristina von Oertzen, a certified nutrition coach with over a decade of experience, understands this struggle all too well. She shares, "Most of my clients have a very similar experience to me. They're either struggling with weight gain, which is usually happening when we are going through midlife and we're less active and age kicks in, changing hormones, etcetera, or they are struggling with food intolerances."

Many women find themselves in a vicious cycle of yo-yo dieting, trying everything from keto to intermittent fasting, only to end up more frustrated and confused than ever. As Kristina puts it, "They ruined their metabolism. They do not really know how to work out. They don't know should they go running every morning or should they do more yoga? What else? Maybe experiment with weightlifting. They don't know what to eat because everyone tells you something else."

The Conventional Approach Isn't Working

The traditional approach to dealing with midlife changes often involves restrictive diets, intense workout regimens, and a general sense of deprivation. But let's face it - how sustainable is it to cut out all your favorite foods and spend hours at the gym every day? Not very.

Moreover, the stress of trying to adhere to these strict regimens can actually exacerbate the problem. As Kristina explains, "Cortisol is a good keyword because of belly fat, because that's one of the things that most women battle with when they enter midlife and when they're going through these hormonal changes during or before menopause. And cortisol is one of the triggers."

There's a Better Way

What if I told you there's a way to navigate these midlife changes without giving up the foods you love or pushing yourself to exhaustion at the gym? A way that not only helps you manage your weight and hormones but also leaves you feeling energized, confident, and in control?

Kristina's approach is all about sustainable changes that fit into your lifestyle. She emphasizes, "What I do when I work with them is mainly just find something that works around their life, because this is what is the most sustainable way to be healthy these days is do not follow the trends. Just look at your life, how your life is structured, and then we see how we can tweak it so that you can optimize it."

Join me in turning menopause into a period of renewal, rather than decline. Let's embrace this phase with confidence and positivity!

The Midlife Makeover Method

Kristina's Midlife Makeover Method is a comprehensive approach that addresses not just diet and exercise, but also stress management and environmental factors. Here's a breakdown of the key components:

1. Sustainable Nutrition

Forget about restrictive diets that leave you feeling deprived. Kristin's approach is all about enjoying food while nourishing your body. She introduces the concept of "worth it treats," explaining, "I call them worth it treats. So this is when my clients, they usually go through a few weeks working with me. And then I introduce, towards the end of the program, I introduced the worth it treats."

The idea is to focus on nutrient-dense foods that support your body's needs while still allowing for indulgences that truly bring you joy. As Kristina puts it, "You can have the good figure and eat your dessert."

2. Tailored Exercise

Instead of prescribing a one-size-fits-all workout plan, Kristina helps her clients find physical activities that they enjoy and can sustainably incorporate into their lives. This could be anything from yoga to weightlifting, depending on individual preferences and needs.

3. Stress Management

Stress is a major contributor to many midlife symptoms, including weight gain. Kristina emphasizes the importance of de-stressing techniques, such as deep breathing exercises. She suggests, "The quickest is either box breathing or just inhaling really deep. So with the belly out, just the thing we, we hate as a woman, press your belly out. Belly deep breath."

4. Environmental Detox

An often overlooked aspect of health is the impact of environmental toxins. Kristina shares her personal experience: "I started to work on environmental toxin, so that was the next step. So really looking at what is entering my body, not through food. So that's all of the skincare products, your laundry liquids, the candles you use in your flat, all of these things that you're inhaling or that you're putting on your skin, they can affect your digestion, which is really surprising."

By addressing these four key areas, Kristina's clients experience remarkable transformations. As she proudly states, "I had some really great successes. I had people losing eleven kilos during these eight weeks really changed their lives."

Kristina's Journey

Kristina's passion for helping midlife women stems from her own health journey. She shares, "For me, this was, as I briefly mentioned, my food intolerances. So they started in my twenties already. I had started with a lactose intolerance. And then I got another intolerance, which I didn't know about, which was histamine intolerance."

Through a process of elimination diets, addressing environmental toxins, and stress management, Kristina was able to overcome her health challenges. She recalls, "In the last stages, where I reduced the toxins and the stress, I could suddenly eat, for example, chickpeas was something I could never tolerate. And then with this support that I created, I was unable to eat foods that I hadn't eaten years."

Your Turn to Thrive

Now that you've seen the potential for transformation, are you ready to embark on your own midlife makeover journey? Here are some steps you can take:

1. Assess Your Current Situation: Take Kristina's free midlife health assessment to see where you stand.

2. Identify Your "Worth It" Treats: What foods bring you genuine joy? These are the indulgences worth keeping in your life.

3. Experiment with Stress-Reduction Techniques: Try box breathing or deep belly breaths when you feel stressed.

4. Audit Your Environment: Look at your skincare, cleaning products, and other household items. Can you make some toxin-free swaps?

5. Seek Support: Consider working with a coach like Christina who understands the unique challenges of midlife changes.

Remember, as Kristina says, "Life is so short, too. It's really tough when they have that kind of relationship with food and it's causing them kind. I mean, it's often frustrating for a husband, too." Don't let these years be defined by struggle and frustration. Instead, view this as an opportunity for renewal and growth.

In the words of Kristina, "I just wanted to say. So the food was the first step. The second step was the environmental toxins. And that made. So that bumped me up to whatever, let's say, like, 80, 80 out of hundred. And then the last bit was de streressing. So those were my three steps where I really could see that I was able to eat foods."

A Word From Our Founder, Steve Adams

Hey there! I'm Steve

I spent 20 years in high-pressure corporate banking, constantly traveling and neglecting my health. By 50, I was sleep-deprived, getting only 2-3 hours of sleep despite lying in bed for six hours. I suffered from acid reflux, IBS, cramping, constipation, anxiety, fatigue, and brain fog, affecting my performance and relationships.

Then I found a Functional Medicine Doctor

He conducted extensive testing on genetics, gut biome health, and hormones. He discovered several issues and created a personalized medical plan and coached me for a year on lifestyle changes. The results were transformative!

Today, I feel like a new person. I can engage in high-intensity interval training, weight lifting, and running without any symptoms. Inspired by this journey, I founded Tiger Medical Institute to help others achieve similar health transformations - to help you live healthier, better life!
